Baseline Noise Monitoring

Typically baseline noise monitoring and surveys are conducted to establish and characterise the existing ambient noise climate prior to development. Baseline surveys are normally conducted between days and weeks depending on the nature of the proposed development and its location. Areas may be classified as “areas of low noise” or “quiet areas” and any proposed development must consider the existing ambient noise status of the area at an early stage during the planning process, typically during the scoping of an area for potential development. These issues are directly relevant to Local Authorities in their preparation of Noise Action Plans and to potential developers of zoned lands.
